GC-MS-based metabolomics for the detection of adulteration in oregano samples

نویسندگان

چکیده

Oregano is one of the most used culinary herb and it often adulterated with cheaper plants. In this study, GC?MS was for identification quantification metabolites from 104 samples oregano (Origanum vulgare O. onites) olive (Olea europaea), venetian sumac (Cotinus coggygria) myrtle (Myrtus communis) leaves, at five different concentration levels. The metabolomics profiles obtained after two-step derivatization, involving methoxyamination silanization, were subjected to multivariate data analysis reveal markers adulteration build regression models on basis oregano-to-adulterants mixing ratio. Orthogonal partial least squares enabled detection adulterations olive, Venetian leaves. Sorbitol levels distinguished while shikimic quinic acids recognized as discrimination factor sumac. Fructose acid correlated myrtle. discriminant onites samples, where catechollactate found be discriminating metabolite.

Analytical challenges of untargeted GC-MS-based metabolomics

A challenge of metabolomics is data processing the enormous : Background amount of information generated by sophisticated analytical techniques. The raw data of an untargeted metabolomic experiment are composited with unwanted biological and technical variations that confound the biological variations of interest. The art of data normalisation to offset these variations and/or eliminate experim...

Comparison of GC-MS and GC×GC-MS in the analysis of human serum samples for biomarker discovery.

We compared the performance of gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC×GC-MS) for metabolite biomarker discovery. Metabolite extracts from 109 human serum samples were analyzed on both platforms with a pooled serum sample analyzed after every 9 biological samples for the purpose of quality control (QC...
